Test Options:
1. Basic Potability
This test will determine if bacteria (Total Coliforms and E.coli) are present in your well water. If bacteria are present, your water is considered "non-potable" (e.g. not drinking water)

If bacteria is found in your water sample, you will be notified immediately. A retest is recommended to confirm the presence of bacteria. If the retest
is also positive, you should consult a plumber or other professional for inspection of the well integrity and shock or permanent chlorination of the well.

2. Full Potability
This test will determine if bacteria (Total Coliforms and e.coli) are present in your well water. If bacteria are present, your water is considered "non-potable" (e.g. not drinking water) The following physical and chemical parameters are also analyzed and compared with Connecticut drinking water guidelines:

  • Physical Parameters (Color, Odor, pH, Turbidity)
  • Minerals (Hardness, Chloride, Nitrate, Nitrite, Sulfate)
  • Metals (Copper, Iron, Manganese, Sodium)

4. Organic Chemicals in Drinking Water
Analysis of volatile organic compounds (VOC's) in your drinking water by EPA Method 524.4 (plus MTBE).

Water test kits are available at the lab.
Please inform the
lab at the time of bottle pick-up if you have a permanently chlorinated well, or if you have recently shock chlorinated your well.

IMPORTANT- Delivery of sample to Laboratory: return samples to the laboratory within 24 hours of sampling. Refrigerate or put on ice. Do not expose samples to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight. These procedures are necessary to prevent contamination and changes in the sample and assure an accurate evaluation of your water supply. Please do not bring sample(s) to us on Friday.

If drinking water analysis is performed for the purposes of a real estate transaction or the installation of a new well, the local public health department will be notified of the results.
